*picks up megaphone* GOOD MORNING NIGERIA AND BEYOND! IT IS ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL MONDAY! *drops megaphone*
How are you all doing this beautiful Monday? Welcome to another edition of the twitter weekly round-up, where we bring to you a summary of events on twitter Nigeria.
We add twitpics/tweets for the week and also, videos/vines of the week. Let us take a look at some of the events on twitter NG last week.
THE NIGERIAN PASSPORT
We cannot categorically say who it was who started this conversation about how the Nigerian passport is looked down upon and the importance of the United States’ passport. Neither can we say if this person was denied a visa application which warranted this topic, but what we can tell you is that a conversation started regarding the importance of being a citizen of the U.S as a result of some of the benefits that come with being one. It didn’t just end there. See some of the tweets:
I’m entitled to three passports. I CHOSE the Nigerian one and I have been to EVERY CONTINENT. NEVER EVER had issues ANYWHERE.
— KA (@KwamiAdadevoh) July 20, 2015
America will soon change its laws. Don’t fix your country. Be looking for where to run to …and destroy. You’ll end up in Ukraine.
— Eyen Ibibio (@Uduakisong) July 20, 2015
Nigerians in America, how many of you are living with expired visa? Student visa people, are you enrolling this fall?
— One woman Army (@zynnnie) July 20, 2015
Let’s shut up about how bad our passport is.Let’s concentrate on how to make it better. We r hardworking .Let’s change d face of out passport
— One woman Army (@zynnnie) July 20, 2015
White man came to Africa, looted and exploited our land and resources. Used the money from our land to fund their own welfare societies
— Nigerian God (@Echecrates) July 20, 2015
Then turn around and have the audacity to complain about an immigration problem in their countries. The Irony
— Nigerian God (@Echecrates) July 20, 2015
Blue kpali for my kids is my number one priority on earth right now. Best gift I can give them.
— Librocubicularist (@Tegbe) July 20, 2015
Smh this ain’t about having money.. U can still get denied a visa to a country no matter the size of ur bank account
— Nigerian God (@Echecrates) July 20, 2015
As one of my friends says, if he’s rich enough his kids ain’t gon need any freaking American passport to move around.
— Battycash (@Batarhe) July 20, 2015
One of the things Baba must do is restore some respect to that our green kpali. At least when it comes to some dead countries.
— Elroy S. Jetson (@thetoolsman) July 20, 2015
Got into Dakar the other day and the immigration officer held my passport a little longer, looked up to me and started talking shit. ?
— Elroy S. Jetson (@thetoolsman) July 20, 2015
If I was given the offer to renounce my Nigerian citizenship in return for an American one. I would do that shit in a heart beat
— Nigerian God (@Echecrates) July 20, 2015
The sad part is we could really turn Africa into a damn paradise. We have all the resources but the way my continent is set up ??
— Nigerian God (@Echecrates) July 20, 2015
I have a Nigerian passport. It has never given me issues. And I’m a traveler. This narrative should not be one sided.
— Eyen Ibibio (@Uduakisong) July 20, 2015
I just think we should focus on making our country better. In time we will get our respect. Or Build a navy to get it by force
— Clarence (@Clarenceonyeks) July 20, 2015
A Nigerian goes abroad and wants to “hammer” at the next minute by whatsoever means.
— EMEKA (@EmekaEmezue) July 20, 2015
Mental and physical laziness, the perennial bane of development in Nigeria. That road is rough, let’s drive on the smooth kerb & spoil it
— KA (@KwamiAdadevoh) July 20, 2015
The golden passport you’re craving was worthless once but now you crave it cos the owners fixed up but your solution is to dump yours? Smh
— KA (@KwamiAdadevoh) July 20, 2015
Disgusting something “@ebonyoma: Even jobs here. If I apply with an American. Guess will be considered first? Who will get paid higher?”
— Fola (@SheCrownLita) July 20, 2015
This is a great quote when you are denied visa https://t.co/mpPbcoKr8k
— Papa John (@HL_Blue) July 20, 2015
Valid kweshon “@WilDeji: Who dem deny visa wey begin this rant?”
— Sam Hart (@hartng) July 20, 2015
Only ish I have EVER had with my green NIGERIAN passport. I am still here. Angry some days but I know Nigeria NEEDS people like me…& YOU!
— Just do it! (@Imagervet) July 20, 2015
One day,Americans are the devil and their Country is Soddom. Next, only blue passport can save. Being a Nigerian is so confusing walahi…
— Spiritual.. (@MASKURAID) July 20, 2015
Only been to Ghana. See ehn, let me travel first before I join this passport conversation.
— Uche Briggs (@UcheBriggs) July 20, 2015
The only thing that hurts me is that an American citizen can fly visa-free to more African countries than a Nigerian.
— Mark Amaza (@amasonic) July 20, 2015
That’s the painful part. Natural disaster o, they will come & pick their citizens jeje while you’re there like… pic.twitter.com/sWiyj0zG11
— Idomagirl (@ebonyoma) July 20, 2015
Cab man : What country you from? Me : Please can u increase the volume of your stereo. Thank you.
— Clean the N.Delta (@manmustwack) July 20, 2015
No Nigerian has gone to space. None. We are complaining about being denied visa. Not a single Nigerian. Is that fair?
— Ikenna Okonkwo (@FailedRift) July 20, 2015
But here’s the deal. I will never exchange my Nigerian passport for a U.S. passport. Not in this world. And not in the one after.
— Manasseh Egedegbe (@knightofdelta) July 20, 2015
You may think I am talking out of citizenship fervor. It is tough being a Nigerian. But it is tougher paying US taxes as a citizen.
— Manasseh Egedegbe (@knightofdelta) July 20, 2015
Now can we stop bitching about countries giving visa restrictions & ask WHY the restrictions? And while we’re at it, maybe fix up???
— Rita C. Onwurah (@RitaOnwurah) July 20, 2015
Ordinary US visa on your green passport will get you 24hr visa upon arrival in the UK. Now think about what an actual US passport can do.
— Bibiire o se f’owora (@yew1e) July 20, 2015
At the end of the day I have gone to wherever I wanted with my Nigerian passport…Yes with ur US passport it’s easier for u..
— D.I.C.E.Y! (@diceytown) July 20, 2015
At least with my Nigerian passport I probably won’t be an ISIS target….no grudges held
— D.I.C.E.Y! (@diceytown) July 20, 2015
I don’t understand the fuss against the Nigerian passport. Where mine has taken me, many Americans will only dream of it. It’s about you!
— The Master Mind (@drteepie) July 20, 2015
#SOMEONE TELL CNN
American based satellite telelvision station; CNN was in the news during the week. And it was not good news. The United States’ president was scheduled to visit Kenya and CNN called Kenya a terror hot bed.

Kenyans weren’t having that, so they took to twitter to rant.

— GINA DIN MBS (@gina_din) July 23, 2015
CNN was right. When behaviour like this goes unpunished, a place should be called a hotbed of terror #SomeoneTellCNN pic.twitter.com/KFIwuMxDSW

INCLUSIVE GOVERNMENT; 97%, AND 5%
If you have been following the news, you will have noticed that President Muhammadu Buhari paid a visit to the United States of America. In one of his sessions on his visit, he was asked a question about his plans for the Niger Delta and the answer he gave was…watch the video.
#NigerianTwitter went ballistic
Buhari on N-Delta: Constituencies that gave me 97% cannot, in all honesty be treated, on some issues, with constituencies that gave me 5%.
— Mark Essien (@markessien) July 23, 2015
He also says he made an undertaking with all Nigerians that he belongs to everybody. And he will NOT do anything that CONTRADICTS that.
— EXPECTANT. GRATEFUL. (@Opey3mi) July 23, 2015
Just imagine if GEJ had made that statement. The internet would have melted. Lai Mohammed would have released a statement vomiting inanities
— Nicholas Ibekwe (@nicholasibekwe) July 23, 2015
Insult me, call me names, but that comment will dog everything Buhari does in the next four years. It won’t go away, trust me.
— Nicholas Ibekwe (@nicholasibekwe) July 23, 2015
When I said Buhari was getting in touch with his ethnically bigoted side, Mark Amaza said it was because I didn’t like the man.
— Saatah Nubari (@Saatah) July 23, 2015
Buhari was asked a question about the Niger Delta. What’s the point of telling a foreign audience that they didn’t vote for him?
— Onye #2ndNigerBridge (@cchukudebelu) July 23, 2015
PMB basically said he is going to favour people who voted him but he will try not to be seen as openly favouring one region.
— Aunty Abigail (@Anabagail) July 23, 2015
Was just waiting for ppl to quote part of Buhari’s response to the Niger Delta question at USIP ystday, leave out the rest and make trouble
— Zainab Usman (@MssZeeUsman) July 23, 2015
I just saw the video. PMB quoting percentages of votes he gathered in different regions in his answer was totally uncalled for.
— EMEKA (@EmekaEmezue) July 23, 2015
Its one of those cases where what you hear depends on what you wanted to hear before you heard it. And you are right regardless.
— Nonso Obikili (@nonso2) July 23, 2015
Baba had a unique opportunity to stress that his plan was for inclusive dev. of all Nigeria. Answer could have been better. Frank though.
— Chijioke Kaduru, MD (@dr_kaduru) July 23, 2015
Summary: If the Constitution did not guarantee certain rights for all regions, I’d in all fairness, treat those who voted for me better.
— Joyce Odukoya (@JoyceOdukoya) July 23, 2015
So if the constitution didn’t protect the people of Niger Delta they’d have been on their own, I’m just happy North Central voted Baba ?
— Ally (@allygucci) July 23, 2015
Just watched the video. He made a mistake in saying that especially in response to the question. Don’t think he heard the question well.
— Clarence (@Clarenceonyeks) July 23, 2015
Dear PMB Please my family are not part of the % that didn’t vote for you Sai Buhari Please EPP us Your sincerely pic.twitter.com/CDy4KMgyjA
— Specs!RIP Hammed! (@BabajideFadoju) July 23, 2015
The Niger Delta gave you 5% of your votes but 90% of the revenue used to run your government. That question was important.
— Ikenna Okonkwo (@FailedRift) July 23, 2015
Chill was on hibernation mode pre-election with the thought that it will be restored after the elections. Now, it is extinct.
— EMEKA (@EmekaEmezue) July 23, 2015
LOOL.. honest President Buhari of North & West Nigeria. But it’s nothing really.
— Battycash (@Batarhe) July 23, 2015
At least my state (Imo) gave a good percentage to Buhari so we won’t be victimised. LMFAOOOO
— Onye Oringo (@BiggieMonzie) July 23, 2015
“IDGAF about the Niger-Delta; u didn’t vote 4 me. However, the constitution wouldn’t let me abandon u. Thank your stars.” – PMB.
— myNotJustOk | NJOApp (@OvieO) July 23, 2015
Dude only voiced the opinions of his supporters. I mean, the ones on Twitter already told y’all you’ll suffer.
— Dame Jayla Peperempe (@Miss_Jayla) July 23, 2015
16years, SS followed PDP, ur environment was full of pollution, u voted massively. Now u rejected APC. We will forgive u. We will help SS
— Woye (@woye1) July 23, 2015
Already, there is paranoia in some parts of the country that they will be marginalized, this just confirms it.
— Amara Nwankpa (@bubusn) July 23, 2015
This is not a situation where you tell people they did not understand what the President said or that they are misquoting him.
— Amara Nwankpa (@bubusn) July 23, 2015
The South West region is a part of the 5%, you’re not in Buhari’s 97%. Sorry South Westerners, we are all in this 5% together.
— Lady B. (@KBUdeogu) July 24, 2015

— Nwa Ka Ibe Ya (@Dikachim) July 24, 2015
No president should say a region will not be treated fairly because they gave him 5% of their votes. Stop trying to defend this please.
— Umari (@UmariAyim) July 24, 2015
Only way a member of 5% can get a government job now pic.twitter.com/dpSJ0bwomz

What’s your plan for the Niger Delta? Seeing they didnt react as people feared by threatening to blow up installations, time to reel them in
— Papa John (@HL_Blue) July 24, 2015
Any president should be grateful for the silent wait and see attitude adopted by the creek militants and capitalize on that for goodwill
— Papa John (@HL_Blue) July 24, 2015
But I don’t think the thought has crossed the President’s mind the opportunity he has to seize with his both hands. And that scares me
— Papa John (@HL_Blue) July 24, 2015
The people wey give me votes na this side dem dey. Ham D’banj! Look where that complacent disregard got him
— Papa John (@HL_Blue) July 24, 2015
He was supposed to lay out his plan for the ND there – amnesty, bunkering, inclusive development. How did he end up at election results?
— Mark Amaza (@amasonic) July 24, 2015
