Update: Police arrest 5 suspects over bomb blast in Bauchi

Thirteen people have reportedly died in the twin explosion which hit a commercial bank in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The explosion occurred around 9am on Friday morning as customers queued up before the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) trying to withdraw money.

There are presently no official confirmation of the casualty figures but eye-witnesses say scores of people sustained injuries in the attack.

The eye-witness who spoke to the Punch Newspapers said eight people died on the spot but the death toll later rose to thirteen.

According to him, most of the people  affected are Bauchi State workers, who were waiting to collect their salaries.

Latest reports, however, indicate that the police have arrested five suspects in connection with the attack.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, the police in Bauchi are already investigating the blast with five suspects already arrested.

The identities of the suspects were, however, not disclosed.
