A victim who was seen lying in a gutter in a recent viral video after he was pushed by a policeman during a raid by Police officers on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway has died at Lagos University Teaching Hospital LASUTH, Saharareporters reports.
It was learnt that the victim, Oloruniran Ajayi who suffered an head injury died immediately he got to the hospital the same day.
Witnesses said the victim was pushed when the policemen were in pursuit of driver who eventually escaped.
It was gathered that upon seeing what had happened, the policemen ran away but a mob was able to apprehend one of them, who was beaten by angry witnesses.
By coincidence, the late Ajani was said to have been a retiree of the Engineering Department at the same LASUTH where he eventually died.
A source said another police officer who came with the mobbed policeman threatened the hospital staff, insisting they attend first to the policeman and ignore his victim.
“There was a mild encounter at first between the nurses and policemen who came with the wounded officer on the evening”, the source said.
“They wanted the officer to be treated first before the victim but some of staff present who recognized the victim as a former staff argued with them that the victim was first taken in before the officer”, the source continued.
Mr. Ajani’s body has been taken to the LASUTH morgue, where a post mortem operation on him is expected on Tuesday.
