Rice meant for the campaign organisation of former President Goodluck Jonathan, was allegedly diverted by some governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Some leaders of Edo state PDP, led by Okharedia Ihimekpen, had last week, alleged that governorship aspirants in the state diverted the rice meant for PDP members during Jonathan’s presidential campaign.
Ihimekpen claimed that the rice was shared by one of the aspirants to his supporters during Christmas.
The PDP leaders also alleged that funds meant for the Jonathan’s election were diverted in the state, while urging the EFCC to probe the disbursement.
However, the state PDP, through Chris Nehikhare, denied the allegations, saying that none of its governorship aspirants diverted rice meant for Jonathan’s campaign in the state.
A defence which the All Progressives Congress, in Edo State has described as laughable.
The APC claims to have evidence of the diverted bags of rice, which it threatened to hand over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Presidency, for probe.
The sticker of the supposed governorship aspirant was super-imposed on the sack of the 2KG rice while under it was the map of Nigeria with the inscription “Feed Nigeria Campaign 2015”, the APC further claimed.
Publicity Secretary, Godwin Erhahon, while displaying the rice to journalists, said: “You can see that originally, what was written on the sack was Feed Nigeria Campaign 2015″.
“But the aspirant super-imposed his campaign sticker on it. Can somebody who is running for governorship write ‘Feed Nigeria Campaign’ in the rice he wants to share to his supporters? No. Rather, it should have been feed Edo State.”
