Today, Saturday, March 14, we remember the 18 persons who died in the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment exercise in 2014.
It’s exactly a year today and we pray their souls continue to rest in peace.
The applicants lost their lives in multiple stampedes in job recruitment venues across the country, as hundreds of thousands thronged the stadia used as examination venues, to vie for the job opportunity.
Apart from the 18 job seekers died, several Nigerian youth were injured during the nationwide recruitment test conducted by the Nigeria Immigration Service.
After almost 12 months, last Friday, President Goodluck Jonathan, gave N75 million (N5million to each family) as well as employment letters to families of those who died in the botched exercise.
