Opinion: She broke the internet with just one tweet and she is neither Queen Bey or Kim K

A pepper spiced tale of how Nigerian brands leveraged the #KeepTheChangeBae Trend!

As one of the most eventful social media platforms among Nigerians, there is always enough drama on Twitter to make your jaws drop, ridiculousness to make you wonder if it’s the same Nigeria you are in and of course the nasty clap-backs that make you fall off your seat laughing.

From expressing random thoughts, hoping everyone endorses them with RTs and likes, TwitterNG could so instantly turn the tables around and in a second, your so called ‘Harmless’ tweet becomes lamb to the slaughter and 10 million Nigerians must have their bite.

This was the case when young Pablo Ayodeji put Ibadan in the spotlight as he shared his displeasure about a date that didn’t go as he planned. Apparently, he had spent ‘so much’ and expected the lady in question to date him.

You agreed to go on a date with me and you’re telling me you not interested in a relationship. #brokeasshungrybitch — Ayo (@Pabloayodeji) March 29, 2017

Having nothing to lose, seeing as she wasn’t mentioned in the tweets, the lady in question was not about to be served at her own party, so she pulled the rug from under his feet, did the serving and this was where everyone pulled out their imaginary popcorns.

Miss Moshiku had not only exposed herself which was not customary, she had made a list of what was spent on both of them (which came to a total of  3,800) and legendarily refunded him N5000 with the narration…

So quickly did she earn the name #KeepTheChangeBae and everyone loved up to her courage spiced with savagery!

It didn’t take a moment for the gist hungry Twitter NG to jump on this and angle after angle, it slowly evolved into varying hashtags; #5kBae #KeepTheChangeBruh #Pablo and then to #KeepTheChangeBae you name it.

Nigerian brands have a good history of latching on to trends for business advantage and today wasn’t about to be any different – everyone came for their slice of the pizza. Remember Olisa Metuh and Chicken Republic?

The soup got stirred when Wema Bank (Pablo Ayodeji’s bank) tore open the pizza box and reached in for the first slice.

From 5k to brand ambassador, First Bank seized the opportunity afforded by Women’s month.

Drone-flying eCommerce brand; Yudala just had to join in.

Then came the trio that sealed it for us! Verve, Quickteller and Interswitch!

No kidding, Big ups to their Digital Agency, ADE Digital, they worked their magic fingers.

What was most amazing is how the conversation came naturally and the fact that they weren’t selling anything, just pitching in! Check them out.

Someone get Quickteller a cape!!! #HeroMode

Dating has got to be the Money-Making Machine.

Oshey Daddy Yo! Interswitch is to Quickteller and Verve what DJ Khaled is to Asahd

So much so that the popular Twitter NG sensation (TrailerJam Tweets) hopped it on their backs.

About shots fired and bullets dodged, Punch Newspapers won with this

Well, if everyone is offering something, why not just offer free pedicure!

Will there be free WiFi and complimentary breakfast?

And TW Wigs brought their A-game to the pizza sharing party.

Peak came with their do more theme! #SideEye

Nau Nau food served it hot!

Even Piggy Bank did the moonwalk into the scene #Snorts

Betting Giants @NairaBet promised his ticket won’t cut… LOL

While we waited for the almighty GTBank to drop theirs, it seemed like Lagos Food and drink fest was more important or the Social media exec was #Pablo’s Brother…LOL

We expected our darling Uber to jump on this and say ‘Rides that are exactly 3800’ are free, you can #KeepTheChangeBae but we kept refreshing, nothing was forth coming!
