We hear the Presidency isn’t too happy with Jega right now

A rift may be brewing between the presidency and the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the supposed reason behind the postponement of the general elections.

The chairman of the commission, Attahiru Jega, on Saturday, February 7, announced the postponement of the elections from February 14 and 28 to March 28 and April 11.

During the press conference, he had disclosed that the postponement of the polls was due to the inability of the security agencies to provide protection for INEC officials, because they were occupied with the war against Boko Haram.

However, the presidency is reportedly unhappy with the fact that Jega failed to address the issue of insufficient PVC distribution but instead chose to blame the postponement on security agencies.

Many people in the presidency are of the opinion that Jega was not being completely sincere about his explanations to Nigerians, with the general consensus being that he attempted to shift the blame on the security outfits.

Sources within President Jonathan’s camp, believe that the election would have been a complete mess, if it had been held as scheduled by the electoral commission. They say the polls would not have been free and fair, as millions of Nigerians would have been disenfranchised.

Meanwhile, it is being peddled that certain personalities within the presidency are silently pushing for Jega to be asked to proceed on terminal leave, as his tenure ends on June 30, 2015.

If this move sails through, Jega will be replaced with an acting chairman to oversee the elections, while he is away on leave. Although the INEC chairman has said he has no reason to resign, but feelers say he may have no say in the outcome of his fate.

However, it remains to be seen what the next course of ation may be by both the presidency and the electoral commission.

  1. Yes, Jega was not sincere at all, Going ahead with the election would mean about 33% of registered voters will be disenfranchised
Wait a minute was it not few days ago that the number one citizen in lagos state just got his PVC, is it supposed to be so ?And INEC sees nothing wrong with that.

Me as a person lost confidence in Jega the moment he laid all the blame on security.

Sincerely INEC was not fully ready for the elections

Is Jega not aware that the success recorded in the NE on d distribution of PVC is because d Gov officials collected d cards in bulk against INEC laid down rules just to.rig the elections for APC? Is he not aware that Nig Custom nabbed 450PVC from Niger citizens?

    God Bless Nigeria
    God Bless GEJ
