A shootout between police officers in the convoy of acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and security guards of the Central Bank of Nigeria almost occurred on Tuesday, SaharaReporters reports.
According to reports, the Inspector-General was on a courtesy visit to the apex bank when the incident between police operatives and guards of the bank, mostly consisting of Directorate of State Security operatives and soldiers almost played out.
It was gathered that the IGP’s convoy drove through the visitors’ gate via Tafawa Balewa Way in a breach of security protocol and forced their way into the CBN Headquarters through the staff gate.
It was reported that the action almost created violence as officers from both sides cocked their guns and were ready to engage in a shootout.
It took the intervention of the CBN’s Director Security Services and top officials of the apex bank to restore calm, reports said.
