Akwa Ibom asks FG to refund N142bn spent on Federal projects

Indigenes of Akwa Ibom State, under the aegis of Ibom Vanguard have asked the Federal Government to refund N142bn the state spent on federal projects.

Spokesperson of the group and serving Senator, Anietie Okon said the money was used to repair federal roads on the promise that it would be refunded.

He said, “The Federal Government owes Akwa Ibom State a whooping N142bn on repairs of federal roads. This was agreed upon by the Federal Ministry of Works before the resources were committed.”

Okon also said Akwa Ibom State and other oil producing states have not been allocated what they deserve from oil derivation allocation.

He said, “We further demand that the Federal Government should, as a matter of urgency, put the process in place to redress the unfathomable injustice by refunding the outstanding 50 per cent of the 13 per cent derivation unconstitutionally withheld from Akwa Ibom and other oil producing states of the Niger Delta region.”
