Following a viral video on social media late Wednesday, Nigerians are still drawn to the sensation caused by the video.
In the video, a young man identified as Chidera was seen destroying items belonging to his mother as he expressed anger and pain while carrying out the ‘rebellious act.’ While the upload of that video on social media created room for discussion on disciplining children, many Nigerians expressed outrage with the way he destroyed the items belonging to his mother.

What we gathered from the video is that the Ireland-based Nigerian family had a fall out when the boy mother to the boy in question, Chidera refused giving him her car keys and after begging for it. He thereafter lost his temper, tried to seize the mother’s phone which she resisted, leading him to go after other items in the house.
Reacting to this, many blamed Chidera’s mother blaming her for improper training. On Chidera’s part, his mother had refused giving him his passport in order to fill a college application.
The trend came up to the Nigeria Twitter community and some pointed out that Chidera needs to return back to Nigeria for proper home training.
At every moment Someone retweets this to my TL, I get angry all over!
Chidera deserves a very rugged matchet drill, until Odin echoes die it! ? https://t.co/gtbaENbVPq

Chidera was spoilt from a small age… Allowed to grow into an idiot of an adult. Tomorrow he'll hurt or kill an innocent person who crosses his path and all his parents will say is sorry. https://t.co/YAkGgxCWzO

Following reactions to the viral video on Twitter, Chidera, in a series of tweets, shared his own side of the story which made many Nigerians take a step back in their lash out against him. However, there were still those who held on to their previous position on the issue.
So I judged Chidera Wrongly… And I’m sorry, I’ve learnt to always Wait to hear the other side of every situation before judging.
God is your strength Chidera

That Chidera statement is pure bullshit! Mans being manipulative here & changing the narrative to drag pity to himself.
No one is considering his poor parents that have been putting up with his unruly behavior for a while now.
Nah you lots a plain gullible!

According to Chidera, the issue between him and his mum has been on for a while, adding that his mum is abusive and violent, thus he lives in fear.
He added that he sometimes sleeps with his mattress by the door out of fear that his mother might carry out her threat to his life. Chidera also shared that he feels nothing towards this family other than pure disgust and hatred for the way they treated him, proclaiming that his family is now ‘dead’ to him.

Reacting to his earlier statement, Nigerians are now discussing the toxicity of some African parents in bringing up their children, as many identified with Chidera, while a few still disagreed with his reasons for acting that way.
First of I don't see Chidera as a stubborn child. No child becomes stubborn by him/herself,any child that becomes stubborn is either from the way the parents handled the child growing up or negative external influences from the home despite having good home training. https://t.co/iBPCcQ4zLL

After Chidera’s parents gave birth to him, they started hating him for no reason. The mum even hates him so much after carrying him for 9 months .
Chidera’s father hates him
Chidera’s mother hates him
Chidera’s siblings all hate
You’re very stupid if you believe this thread

After going through that Chidera's thread and the video, all I have to say is this.
African Parents are toxic I can relate but they are your parent ffs. I won't buy the idea of coming to Social media to crucify them. It won't change anything and you know it.
For me, The deed…

Chidera definitely doesn't have a good home training . He is a spoilt child . Unreasonable , entitled and lost . That boy needs rehabilitation . Your mom, dad and brothers can't hate you altogether. Something is definitely wrong with him . This is not about African parenting

A huge number of people berated many who were of the opinion that all African parents are toxic in bringing up their children, pointing out that Chidera’s parents may have had a hand in the way he turned out but that doesn’t mean all African parents are the same.
