One walk into Covenant Christian Centre and you can confirm that Pastor Poju Oyemade’s constant post on social media is not mere talk but action.
Known for his strong doctrinal stand on many issues in the body of Christ, Pastor Poju is the Senior Pastor of one of the most popular Pentecostal churches in Nigeria, Covenant Christian Centre. One can hardly measure the impact that Covenant Christian Centre has had on the world on faith, economic and political issues both within and outside Nigeria. Somehow, Church Crawler found Covenant Christian Centre, Iganmu as the go-to-church last Sunday and it was indeed a blissful time.
The service kicked off by 8 am (I discovered later on that this was the second service) with a session of soul-lifting praise and worship. We were all on a “high” during the worship and praise session. At Covenant Christian Centre, it wasn’t necessarily about the beauty of the sound or the excellence of the aesthetics but that everyone seemed to be drowned in a river of Joy during the praise and worship. As much as I could see around, there weren’t any “snapchat – freaks” or maybe they just didn’t come for that service. Who knows?
How could I have forgotten the orderly ushers whose smile could hardly let me concentrate on my way into the church?
As soon as the worship session ended, Pastor Poju Oyemade approached the podium to continue a series on Spiritual tools to building a successful enterprise. But, it was so much more, Pastor Poju practically took us through a journey into the word of God one passage after the other. Interestingly, he didn’t forget to talk about how to go through seemingly dark situations with joy. The message was definitely not devoid of laughter, plenty bible quoting and of course, the tweetable moments. Trust Pastor Poju to drop them bars as its hot.
As soon as the sermon ended, you could feel the warmth of the message in the audience. We all had something to think about, something to take home and something to go home to do.
The announcements came later on and the special time to welcome first-time attendees of the church too. After much deliberation, I joined the several numbers of people who stood up as first-timers. Although the memory of the previous time still stuck, I hoped for a better experience and I got it. We were taken to a special seat for a rather short and sharp welcome. One that was serenaded with several expressions of Joy.
I could hardly hold it in anymore as I caught up with my friends in the parking lot after service. We all had several stories to share from the 2-hour service we attended at Covenant Christian Centre.
Till I attend that church and Church Crawler crawls into your church,
Better be prepared, “for the hour cometh…”
