The expenses incurred alone on the ‘preparation of budget’ by government institutions in the 2016 national budget runs into millions.
While the Ministry Of Budget and National Planning will spend about N198 million on the preparation of budgets, the Ministry of Defense has earmarked N33, 233, 363 for its preparation of budget.
The Ministry of Budget also earmarked N122 million for miscellaneous expenses while N229 million was apportioned for the renovation of the auditorium of the Federal Ministry of Defence.
The 2016 Nigerian Appropriation Bill has been the subject of immense controversy, over its alleged disappearance from the National Assembly and subsequent revelation by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, that two versions of the budget were received from the Presidency.
The Minister of Defence, Muhammad Dan-Ali, recently ward off reports that $11 million was spent to transport the 24 Mine Resistant Armour Protected Vehicles, donated by the United States of America to help Nigeria in the fight against insurgency.
