Founder of Daar Communications, Raymond Dokpesi, has finally made bail after being held in detention in Kuje prison, Abuja.
Dokpesi, who was remanded in the prison by a Federal High Court in Abuja, was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had on December 11, on six counts of money laundering and procurement fraud.
The media mogul is alleged to have received about N2.1bn from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki for the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential media campaign.
Justice Gabriel Kolawole had granted Dokpesi bail in the sum of N200 million to be paid by two sureties, which amounts to N400 million.
The judge also ordered that Dokpesi be remanded in Kuje prison pending when he would fulfill the bail conditions.
According to Dokpesi’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), these conditions were met on Wednesday, December 16.
Ozekhome revealed to Punch newspapers via a text message, that: “High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi released from Kuje Prisons to his counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), his son, Taymond (Jnr); his wife, Tosin, after fulfilling the bail conditions imposed by Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja, who granted bail on Monday, December 14 upon an application filed and argued by his counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN).”
