The title of ‘Eze Ndi Igbo, has been banned in Akureland, by the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi.
The monarch ordered that the title should be reviewed and replaced with a non-controversial honorary title.
The ban became necessary in order to end the crisis between the monarch and the leader of the Igbo community in the town, Gregory Iloehike.
The Igbo leader was last week, dethroned by the traditional ruler, who also denied Igbo people in the area from running their businesses because of their leader’s rude behaviour towards him at his palace.
Oba Adelusi also demanded that the Igbo leader should stop wearing a crown and must comply with all the directives of the palace.
The monarch had insisted that it was the only way Igbo traders in the area would be allowed to continue operating their businesses in the community.
The dethroned Eze was also mandated to apologise for his behaviour, in at least three national dailies and television and radio stations.
