Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has ordered the immediate suspension of work on the proposed airport project in the outskirts of Ado Ekiti.
The directive for suspension of the project, was announced after a meeting with land owners and farmers, who own plantations on the land designated for the project.
After work began on the proposed area, there was tension as farmers lamented that prior notice was not given neither were they compensated.
At the meeting which was also attended by officials of the Ministry of Works and Transportation, Fayose appealed to land owners and farmers promising to pay them compensation.
Fayose stated that his administration has resolved to suspend work on the airport project until December to give room for the compensation of the land owners and farmers.
He added that suspending the project would give farmers opportunity to harvest their crops.
