Former NBA boss, Okey Wali, released after 13 days in captivity

Barely two weeks after being abducted, the immediate past President of Nigerian Bar Association, Okey Wali has been released by his kidnappers.

Wali was seized on 11 October in Port Harcourt by unknown gunmen, and has spent 13 days in the captivity of his abductors.

According to a statement released by the President of the NBA, Mr Augustine Aleghe, the senior lawyer was released around 11pm on the night of on Thursday, 23 October, after spending 13 days in captivity.

Aleghe said, “I have personally spoken to him and can confirm that he is hale, hearty and in good spirit.”

Furthermore, he thanked Wali’s colleagues, security agencies, human rights activists and Nigerians for playing a role in getting him released.

The NBA President, however, failed to divulge the details of negtotiations which led to Wali’s release, and if any ransom was paid to facilitate his release from the gunmen.
