Fulani people threatening me over anti-grazing law – Ortom

Benue State governor Samuel Ortom has said some unidentified Fulani persons have threatened him over the anti-open grazing law recently enacted in the state.

Ortom stated this on Wednesday while addressing members of National Council of Tiv Youths who were protesting utterances by Fulani leaders against Tiv people.

The governor said he would not rescind his decision while stating that the law would commence latest November 2017.

He said, “Just this morning (Wednesday) one Fulani called my wife and asked her to warn me that I (Ortom) am joking with them (Fulani), but my response when my wife told me this, is that am not joking, this law has come to stay.
“I challenge anyone who has superior solution to the senseless killings of our people other than anti-open grazing law should bring it forward,  before the passage of the bill by House of Assembly, due process was followed, every nationality living in the state;  the Igbos, Yorubas, Hausas/Fulanis and others were invited to the public hearing.
“Whoever chooses to live in Benue must obey the law of the land, there is no grazing in Benue,  I was elected to protect lives and property of every resident of the state, not to preside over dead people.”
He added that attacks on farmers by Fulani herdsmen necessitated the encatment of the law.
Ortom had signed into law a bill prohibiting open grazing of cattle and livestock in the state.
The law had  among others  provided  that anyone who engages in open grazing in Benue State  and on conviction will now be liable to five years imprisonment and  provided  for monetary compensation  in case of any damage to a property and imprisonment of two years of the livestock owner or manager in case of injury to any person in the state.

  1. The scenerio in the country shows that all animals are equal but some seems to be more equal than others.
The fulani herdsmen attacks on Benue communities has continued unabeted for some time now without intervention from the FG apart from provision of relief materials through NEMA.
The identity of those behind the attacks and killings remained a zig-saw puzzle. But today it id discoverd that an associatio of the fulani herders are responsible based on their utterances on the anti-grazing and prohibition bill by the Benue State government. They have vowed to continue untill their mission which is total take over of Benue and elimination of Tiv and other etnicities in the state is achieved.
What baffles many people is that the FG is yet to issue a categorical statement in condemnation to this threat eve.even as no single herdsman has been artestearrested since this has been going on.
This indicates that all Nigerians are equal but the fulanis are more equal than the restThe FG must without delay in arresting those who acted the script and those who drafted it.
    now, th untill t
