Katsina governor indefinitely detains student for criticizing him on Facebook

by S’ola Filani

You might want to think twice, when next you want to say a word against the Kastina state Governor on social media.

A Nigerian undergraduate in his early 20s, Abdulmalik Sa’idu, has been locked up for criticizing the Governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema, on Facebook.

Unfortunately, Sa’idu has been in jail for over 20 days now and it doesn’t appear he would be released any time soon.

Sa’idu was arrested for posting details of an alleged fertiliser scam in Katsina state on his Facebook page, only to receive a phone call on August 28th from someone at the Katsina State government house, saying there was a message he had to receive at the governor’s residence.

Upon his arrival at the Governor’s residence, he was arrested and taken to Batagarawa Police Station, where he was detained.

Prior to his arrest, the young man had been warned on several occasions to stop criticizing the state government.

Our friends at Premium Times, spoke to the boy’s father,  Maiyawo Sa’idu, who confirmed the report.
