It’s a rare skill, to be able to continually put your foot in your mouth, when you speak publicly.
Rare as it is, it is also quite embarrassing when you are a lawmaker of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, chosen by citizens of his state to represent their interests and fight for the best possible opportunities for them.
Jigawa state lawmaker, Honorable Gudaji Kazaure first shot to viral fame and the consciousness of Nigerians when he went viral for behaving drunkenly when trying to explain a law.
Then he was in the news for literally shooting himself in the foot at plenary.
And now, he is in the news for this statement.
“Telling a Muslim to do family planning, is telling him to violate his religion; because there’s no planning in Islam” – Hon Gudaji Kazaure pic.twitter.com/okWCksd8tB

For a lawmaker of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a person expected to be educated enough to inform decision making that will affect millions of people, to have no frame of reference on matters as important as contraception and family planning is mind boggling.
There are thousands of articles and enough proven journals and information to swarm Gudaji Kazaure with, that state explicitly that family spacing (through whatever means) is integral to the improved development of children and by extension, the society.
Islam allows for men to marry more than one wife, but Islam also obligates that no one willingly cause anyone else avoidable suffering.
Bringing a child into the world when you have no plans whatsoever on how to ensure that said child has a decent standard of living is thoughtless. To bring several children into the world, one after the other when you have no plans, long or short term to raise them is downright criminal.
Kazaure himself is obviously privileged, and that privilege allows him make broad, ignorant statements about child spacing and family planning, twisting his religion into a bludgeon with which he can crush any kind of contrary inquisition.
Perhaps, Honorable Ganduji can try being in the news for positive, progressive reasons. Just this once.
