The rampage of Fulani herdsmen on Benue escalated to the very top as the state Governor, Gabriel Suswam, narrowly escaped death at their hands.
The governor’s convoy was ambushed yesterday by assailants believed to be Fulani mercenaries and the attackers engaged in a shootout with Suswam’s aides.
The incident occurred at the Tee-Akanyi village environs of the Guma Local Government Area of the state.
Attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen and mercenaries have become frequent in the state leading to massive loss of life and property.
Governor Suswam was visiting some communities along the Daudu-Gbajimba road which had been ransacked and destroyed by the herdsmen when he and his team came under attack.
