Staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) involved in the collation of the Rivers East legislative rerun have abandoned the returning officer, thecable reports.
It was learnt that the three staff left the council hall Port Harcourt one after the other.
The returning officer, Oji Ekumankama said he was worried at the development.
I am very disturbed at the moment,” he said.
“We just have to announce a winner. Even if everyone leaves, I will still remain here. As the returning officer, I have nowhere to go until the result is announced.
“I know that something is wrong somewhere, but this is our country, we will all do our best to develop it.”
Agents of all other parties except the All Progressives Congress (APC) also left the hall some minutes after.
Ikwerre and Emouha Local Governments of the Rivers East district are yet to be announced.
INEC had earlier claimed results of the two LGAs were hijacked by a popular politician.
