Manchester City needed a strike from former Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard to salvage a point from Sunday’s clash at the Etihad Stadium.
Chelsea who have won all their games in the English Premier league this season, took the lead after a swift attacking move with Andre Schurrle finishing off Eden Hazard’s pass in the 71st minute.
City were down to 10 men in the 65th minute after he chopped down Diego Costa. The Argentine was sent off after receiving his second yellow card of the game.
Costa struck the post before Lampard came on as a second-half substitute, to volleyed James Milner’s cross beyond Thibaut Courtois with five minutes left to give the Premier League champions an equaliser.
Like in the manner of most players who have scored against their former clubs, the former Chelsea midfielder did not celebrate his goal.
