Okorocha faces another challenge in Imo

The Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria of Imo state, has commenced its indefinite strike, over what they termed: “the apparent unwillingness of Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, to comply with the ruling of the Federal High Court judgment on the financial autonomy of the judiciary”.

The leadership of JUSUN in Imo state, explained that their action was as a result of the insensitivity of Rochas Okorocha’s government towards them as well as its refusal to respond to legitimate demands.

The union, therefore,  directed all the offices of the courts and the State Judicial Service Commission, to be locked until further notice.

A lawyer lamented that the indefinite strike would not solve the issue but further worsen the bad situation in Imo Judiciary.

“The courts are currently congested due to lack of adequate number of judges to adjudicate over the numerous matters, those awaiting trial would simply remain in jail, until the labor crisis was resolved,” the lawyer said.

The Imo state House of Assembly was also reportedly under lock, as the workers protested their five months salaries and allowances arrears.

The workers, under the umbrella union of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) appealed to the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Anthony Obinna, to intervene on their behalf.

They stated that they were going through pains and wondered why Okorocha was threatening to transfer them into the rural communities as  punishment.
