Finally, Maigari quits as NFF president

Alhaji Aminu Maigari has officially resigned from his position, as president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

His decision comes ahead of the NFF Congress, which will be held on Tuesday in Abuja.

“The President of Nigeria Football Federation Alhaji Aminu Maigari has formally resigned his position on the board with effect from August 26, 2014,” a statement, signed by the Special Assistant to the Minister of Sports on Media, Patrick Omorodion, read.

“The Bauchi-born administrator resigned as NFF President on August 12, 2014 to pave way for a peaceful resolution of the crisis that engulfed the football federation shortly after the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

“Meanwhile, the tenure of the Aminu Miagari-led NFF Board expires by midnight August 25, 2014, a day before the congress where a new date for the Board election will be decided.”

Maigari was reinstated as NFF president by FIFA, after he was impeached by other NFF board members, an action that saw Nigeria suspended by the world football governing body.
