After being tortured by some villagers for stealing N1,000 from a shop, a 32-year-old man, Mr. Simon Mbam has committed suicide in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Last weekend, Simon and his friends were having drinks, when the owner of the shop revealed that N1,000 was missing.
The alarm raised by the shop owner attracted villagers who converged at the scene, and demanded that the money be produced.
The money was later found at the door step of the shop, after which, the suspect confessed to the crime.
He was allegedly beaten by the angry villagers until he started bleeding and lost consciousness.
Despite being fined two goats, two crates of beer and N5,000, which were immediately provided by the suspect’s mother, the villagers insisted that an additional N5,000 should be provided, so as not to involve the Police.
After the second demand, the suspect managed to escape from his captors and jumped into Aku Pond, which was not far from the market square.
In spite of attempts to immediately rescue him, he drowned before his body could be retrieved by the villagers.
Meanwhile, the mother of the suspect reported the matter to the police, which led to the arrest of four people and the village head.
the family of the accused must be completely taken care of by the entire villagers for killing after tasking the accused.
