The Media Blog: What happened with Snopes gives us such hope

So the myth-bursting website,  Snopes.com had major legal issues that made it unable to function, essentially.

It took a bold step, went to the public for help, and got more than it needed in just 24 hours! Receiving over half a million dollars from nearly 20,000 people on GoFundMe.

“Stunned and humbled by this. The money is incredibly helpful. The support is priceless,”

Managing Editor Brooke Binkowski wrote in a tweet Tuesday. “We won’t forget. Thank you.”

You may think: how does this concern Nigeria?

Well think of all the possible funding alternatives this throws up for bold, distinctive journalism, the kind that truly resonates with readers.
