Nigeria is a hell that should have been like heaven – 7 important things you didn’t read yesterday (but should have)

by Kolapo Olapoju

1. Abdusalami pleads for ‘benefit of doubt’ for GEJ

Former Head of State, Abdusalami Abubakar, says we should give President Jonathan the benefit of the doubt.

Abubakar said Jonathan has promised not to further postpone the elections and as such, should be trusted for now.

He said: “As our President, let us give him benefit of doubt and accept what he said.”

2. GEJ’s dollars causes rift in Delta
We are not surprised about this rift, especially with the rate of dollar against the naira.

According to the folks at Sahara Reporters, the dollar “gifts” by President Goodluck Jonathan to various ethnic groups in Delta State has generated disagreement among the people

Basically, some greedy persons were said to have shared the funds in an uneven manner.

But why?

3. Lagos Doctors to embark on quarterly strike
This is almost becoming a periodical happening, and for some reason, it never yields desired result.

Doctors in the employ of the Lagos State Government may embark on an indefinite strike on Monday.

For withholding their May 2012 as well as August/September 2014 salaries, Chairman of the Medical Guild, Dr. Biyi Kufo, says the doctors will be absconding from Lagos state hospitals.

4. Okorocha pulls a premature stunt for Ambode

But really, what would it cost Rochas Okorocha to wait till Akinwumi Ambode becomes governor before admitting him into the APC governor’s forum.

Apparently, the man has little or no chill whatsoever.

After bringing him into the fold, he said: “Ambode, a man with a track record of excellent performance who served for 27 years in Lagos as Auditor General of Local governments and later the Accountant General of the State is the best thing to happen to Lagos.”

5. The joy-less relationship of Tinubu and Jonathan

Yet again, Bola Tinubu has an axe to grind with President Goodluck Jonathan.

The APC leader is perturbed that the President can’t just say ‘i’m sorry’ to Nigerians.

Jonathan never says to Nigerians, I am sorry. Today, he cannot pay insurance for the life of the soldiers and the police who are working in danger. They have concentrated money in bribing people. The exchange rate is very high and he says he wants to make vehicles for Nigeria.”

6. Nigeria is an hell that should have been like heaven

We didn’t say this… Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole uttered the following words.

“They are saying APC is a Muslim Party. How can a party that parades Christians such as me, Chief John Oyegun, Prof Osinbanjo and many others be described as a Muslim Party?”

“Now let’s look at it, if Nigeria’s problem is about religion, since 1999 till now, Christians have ruled the nation for 14 years, how come if it is really about religion that despite ruling for 14 years, Nigeria that ought to be like heaven is still like hell?”

7. Fayose apparently has all the answers

Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose, says he knows why the All Progressives Congress governors are backing Muhammadu Buhari.

As always, Fayose has the answers and reasons for everything in the political terrain, nowadays.

“It is very clear that APC and Buhari cannot win but we need to expose their game plan so that the North won’t fall into their deceit. They have many options, and suppose Buhari lives beyond their imagination.

“By 2017, they will begin by using the media to discuss his age; they will say he is too weak, old and sickly to go for second term. They will say that Buhari’s vice, who may be Osinbajo or Tinubu, should step in. Their lawyers are there to raise constitutional provisions to back up their agenda.”
