Army spokesman, @GENOlukolade, is confused about the release or otherwise of the Chibok girls

by Kolapo Olapoju

Earlier today, it was reported by the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, that some of the Chibok girls kidnapped in April by Boko Haram militants, had been released.

A top military source had claimed that two Toyota Hiace buses loaded with the girls were driven into the Maimalari Barracks, the headquarters of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, and Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Chris Olukolade, also confirmed the development.

However, less than 30 minutes later, Olukolade retracted his earlier statement, saying he had been having difficulty establishing contact with his colleagues in Maiduguri and consequently, he was no longer certain if the girls driven into the barracks were newly rescued.

While the exact details of the situation remains sketchy, it is also being reported that the girls driven into the Maimalari barracks were those who had earlier escaped from the Boko Haram sect.

Over 200 girls were kidnapped from their secondary school in Chibok, Borno State, on 14 April, by insurgents of the Islamic terrorist sect, Boko Haram.
