Letter: How Islam views ‘global peace’

by Michael Olusegun Olayanju

After reading the piece by Muhammad Sidq Isa in Daily Trust of April 1st 2016 titled Global Peace in Islamic Perspective, it became clear that what I shared with a few friends in recent times is indeed true and very apt, I have clamoured for the need for Muslims to do more for the sake of their religion.

He poured out my mind completely and went further to pick out all the bits and pieces, as it is today, violence, terrorism and Islam seem to lay side-by-side the world-over, the space in-between is so thin that one may not even notice it. I am a Christian and I have come to realise that the problem is not with the religion of Islam but the way and manner some adherents practice it.

I have met and interacted with a lot of peace loving Muslims who would not hurt a fly, those who would not encourage or condone extremism or violence in any coloration, I will implore these ones to continue to pursue real peace in character and deed, from person-to-person and within their communities, the very influential scholars have got a lot of job to do, they must deploy their offices to send out messages of peace and brotherliness across the world.

When a leading presidential candidate in America singled out Muslims for tongue-lashing and threat, I felt not too good about the whole episode but can we blame the mortal man a 100%? NO! As only your boiled/roasted yam can lead your fingers to palm oil stain.
