Outburst erupts after white actor is cast as Michael Jackson

Following the recent #OscarsSoWhite movement,  the casting of Joseph Fiennes as Michael Jackson in a movie about 9/11 has got quite a lot of eyebrows raised.

Below is a tweet posted on Black Entertainment Television’s Twitter page earlier today.

Born to a black family, the King of Pop, died in 2009 at age 50 in controversial circumstances.

Jackson suffered from the skin condition- vitiligo, which started in the late ’80s. Investigators reportedly found 30 tubes of skin whitening cream at his home after his death.

The project has been filmed and is set to be released in the U.K. soon.

The film in question is based on a 2011 Vanity Fair article titled, “Liz Taylor, Michael Jackson, and Marlon Brando Star in…Escape from New York!”

The piece is about a road trip some people believe the late stars took from New York to Los Angeles following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The night before the attacks, Jackson had performed at his 30th anniversary celebration in Madison Square Garden.
