At the moment, Nigerian-American singer-songwriter and actor Olurotimi Akinosho – aka Rotimi – is having the best of both worlds. As an artiste, his 2017 album Jeep Music Vol. 1 is a major, shimmering body of work. As an actor, hey, do you even watch Power? Currently a regular on the Starz’s record breaking hit television series, playing the character Dre alongside Omari Hardwick and Executive Producer 50 Cent, Rotimi has cultivated a fandom across space and borders.
According to Variety, Rotimi will star opposite Erica Ash in the indie romantic comedy Singleholic, based on the novel by the same name Katherine Bing. The movie will be directed by Bryan Barber, and the story follows Ash, who wakes up on the morning of her 35th birthday and decides she wants to settle down and get married, so she goes on a series of hilarious dates. And, you have guessed it: Rotimi plays Ash’s main love interest.
Singleholic may not have the best of movie ideas (gosh, haven’t we seen this kind of plot over and over?), but the project will be a good addition to Rotimi’s portfolio. Rotimi landed his first acting role on the Starz critically acclaimed series Boss, which spanned two seasons and starred Kelsey Grammer, Sanaa Lathan and rapper T.I. He also had recurring roles in ABC’s Betrayal and Battle Creek on CBS.
Jumping into the big screen, Rotimi made his acting debut in Fox Searchlight’s 2013 Christmas movie Black Nativity as officer McDaniels alongside Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, and Jennifer Hudson to name a few. Also, Rotimi appeared in the Divergent series with Ashley Judd, Kate Winslet, Zoe Kravitz and Tony Goldwyn. He later co-starred in the film Imperial Dreams that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2014.
Other cast members for Singleholic are Stephen Bishop, Tyson Beckford, and Vanessa A. Williams. The movie is currently in production in Mauritius, East Africa.
