SNAPSHOT: Agonised mother of #Aluu4 – “When we got there, one of them was still breathing”

by Hauwa Gambo

Nigerians will not get over this terrible set of events anytime soon.

Jane Toku, the mother of Lloyd, one of the four undergraduates of the University of Port Harcourt that were lynched at Aluu in Rivers, told the Punch that her son’s death will always haunt her – even as she can’t get over the shock that no one in the crowd did anything.

“When we got there, one of them was still breathing,” she said, in tears.” He was gasping for breath, but the crowd…they were all there watching while my baby (Lloyd) was butchered. Come to my area and ask questions about my child; the child I trained.

“Penultimate Sunday, we went to church, Salvation Ministry; that is where he worshipped. We all went together for the second service. He stayed back for the remaining service. When he came back, he started preparing to go to school. I can still see him as I talk to you.

“He brought out a book; ‘How Faith Works’ by David Ibiyomie and he said ‘Mummy, read this book and you will know what faith is all about. By the time I come back on Friday, you will tell me what faith is all about.’

“Ever since, I have been moving around with that book, so that I could read and not get him angry when he comes back from school and ask me about what I learnt from the book.

“Thursday was his daddy’s birthday. He (Lloyd) called him and wished him happy birthday. When his daddy asked him if he would be coming home to celebrate the birthday with the family, he (Lloyd) promised to be back on Friday after lectures.”

Just terrible. Just terrible.

  8. We feel so bad that at this age some white people think that we are still animals but action speaks louder than words, we are always proving them right yet we do not want them acknowledge that.Just last week it was Mubi in Adamawa eastern part of Nigeria and this week again its Portharcourt, Maiduguri and Kano only God almighty can deliver this country.

  9. And where is that Monster village Chief? He doesn't deserve a court room this is where that clause in the bible 'an eye for an eye' will apply

  10. So painful, those pepetrators must not go unpurnished .Aluu fools

  11. Mom, take heart! The Lord almighty will comfort you, I can't imagine how people could stand at the scene watching the whole scenario. I can't even watch video on youtube its so barbaric!

  12. My heart aches, I shiver and tears finds its way to my eyes whenever I think this gruesome killing of these promising lad. where is the love? where is mercy? what is wrong with us? did this really Happen? I feel hurt and I can't imagine what the families will be going through. It's really sad. that community has robbed us of so much. we can only learn and change the way we react to situations. and remember its dangerous to stand and watch things lyk this be cause those onlookers will definitely not be spared from the wrath of God.

  13. May God grant ϑ parents ϑ fortitude to bear ϑ loss. Dis is no time to cry blood for blood cause ϑ innocent might suffer. Let God be ϑ judge

  14. This act is not only Barbaric but is inhumane and does not portray that a religion exist in the mind of the dwellers of that community,

The act lasted for some minutes , long enougth for either police to be invited or the school authority to be alerted, but the heartless unlooker re busy snapping pictures and taking videos.I recomend that the perpetrators faced the full wrath of the law

  17. May God give you the strength to move on despite this wickedness.

  18. all the people involved in the killings should be given a life sentence, if not students should take the law into their hands and reply jungle justice with jungle justice. Blood for blood.

  19. This poor woman and the other parents will be haunted for the rest of their lives by the gruesome deaths of their sons. It's really disgusting and unfair that HUMAN BEINGS will stand and watch fellow humans killed in such a manner. God will judge EVERY SINGLE PERSON that stood, participated and watched as our late brothers were killed. May God grant their families solace.

  20. This is most traumatic. I cannot imagine what this mother feels now. I hope no mother lives through this again

Our Lord Jesus Christ also suffered till death, have your consolation that you shall meet your lovely and lovable children again in paradise. But for the murderers, Christ said to that man that betrayed him, it is better he was not born.
