Nigerian football legend, Stephen ‘Big Boss’ Keshi was confirmed dead in the early hours of Wednesday, June 8.
While Keshi’s family put out a statement confirming that he died of cardiac arrest, online news platform, TheCable reports that the former Super Eagles coach was hypertensive and heartbroken over the death of his wife.
Kate Keshi lost her battle to cancer in December 2015 and her husband of 35 years was said to be inconsolable following her death.
“Since the death of his wife, Kate, in December 2015, his life had changed dramatically,” a family member was quoted to have said.
Keshi, the family member said, was managing his hypertension “very well” and was “always taking his medications and checking his blood pressure very regularly”.
Another family member was quoted to have said that Keshi was extremely lonely after the passing of Kate.
“After the burial of his wife, people practically left him to himself. The calls and visits became fewer, and he felt the pain the more. They were married for 35 years and he watched the love of his life battle bravely with cancer for three years. He was inconsolable,” he said.
Keshi, who was expected to travel to the United States today, reportedly complained of excruciating pains in his legs a few minutes to midnight.
