Mother’s mercy
Something interesting has happened to Omawumi along the years. As she became more comfortable with her fame and success, she appears to have softened considerably. The tough, Waffi babe exterior is still there, probably always will be but her skinny, clumsy post idol frame has given way to a more robust, fleshed out figure. Her sartorial choices have improved, as she has learned to put her trust in professionals and in her music videos, she appears to be doing less dancing even as she is embracing her inner diva- complete with big hair, flowing gowns and singing into the microphone.
In February this year at the Ikoyi registry in Lagos, a visibly pregnant Omawumi officially tied the knot with Tosin Yusuf, her partner of five years and father of her daughter Kamillah. Months later, the couple welcomed their second child, a bouncing baby boy christened Fareed. Her social media feeds suggest a life well balanced and the random bursts of anger have given way to Bible quotes and motivational speeches.
Omawumi even granted the rare interview to Punch newspapers where she spoke openly about her husband. Hear her, “We wanted to make sure that we were getting married for the right reasons. We were in love before we had a child together and we were still seeing each other after I gave birth to my first child. We wanted to be sure that we were truly in love because we really did not have time to get to know each other before I got pregnant. When I got pregnant, he did the manly thing by standing by me and supporting me. We did not want to get married until we were very sure that it was what we wanted.’’
