INEC to begin continuous voter registration August 18

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will commence Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) nationwide on August 18 ahead of the 2027 general election.
The exercise, to be conducted in three phases, will take place at over 800 ward registration centres across the country. INEC said online pre-registration will open on August 18 via its portal.
Physical registration will begin on August 25 at all local government offices and designated centres, allowing eligible citizens to register, update their details, or replace lost voter cards.
Nigeria grants Air Tanzania foreign carrier operation permit

The Federal Government has issued the Foreign Carrier Operation Permit (FCOP) to Air Tanzania Company Limited at the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development headquarters in Abuja.
Permanent Secretary Ibrahim Kana, represented by Ahmed Mohammed, said the move is aimed at improving operational efficiency, safety, and cooperation between Nigeria and Tanzania in the aviation sector.
According to the ministry, the FCOP will streamline procedures, promote smooth interactions between both countries’ aviation stakeholders, and align operations with international best practices.
CBN moves to revive eNaira, boost digital payments

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced plans to revive the eNaira project as part of efforts to build trust and expand access to digital financial services across the country.
Launched in October 2021 to promote financial inclusion, the eNaira has faced low adoption, which the CBN linked to limited public awareness. Speaking at the CBN Fair in Lagos, Branch Controller Sunday Daibo said the apex bank is working to improve understanding and usage of the platform.
Themed “Driving Alternative Payment Channels as Tools for Financial Inclusion, Growth and Accelerated Economic Development”, the event highlighted the CBN’s commitment to bringing more Nigerians into the digital payment ecosystem.
EFCC reaffirms non-partisan stance in anti-corruption drive

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has restated its commitment to an impartial anti-graft campaign, vowing not to shield any “sacred cow.”
Chairman Ola Olukoyede said the agency’s mandate is non-partisan, stressing that both ruling party and opposition figures are subject to investigation. He noted that the EFCC has probed serving and former APC governors and ministers, as well as opposition politicians.
Olukoyede, in a statement by the commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, added that investigations and prosecutions have no time limit, and the law will take its course regardless of political affiliation.
Lagos announces temporary traffic diversion on Osborne Road

The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion around Osborne Road in Ikoyi, Eti-Osa Local Government, from Friday, August 15 to Sunday, August 17.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the measure is to ease disruption caused by drainage connection works linking Modupe Alakija Crescent to the median drains on Osborne Road.
He explained that the project involves connecting newly constructed drains via a cross culvert to the underground channel beneath the road’s median, aimed at improving the area’s drainage system.
