Tragic: 3 people killed in Badagry car accident

Three people have reportedly lost their lives in an auto accident on Friday, November 29, 2013, in Badagry, Lagos State.

The vehicle they were travelling in collided with another commercial bus while trying to evade arrest by customs officials. The accident occurred at 2:41pm at MTN junction, Oko Afo area of Badagry.

Nine people sustained injuries in the same accident.

According to reports:

Sulisu Galadunci, the Badagry Unit Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), confirmed the accident. Galadunci said that a Mazda commercial bus with Lagos registration number EPE 518 XD veered off its lane while trying to evade arrest by customs official.

He said that in the process, the vehicle collided with another commercial bus with Lagos registration number LSD 345 XD.

 Galadunci said that drivers of both vehicles and a passenger on the front seat of the Mazda died on the spot. “The commercial bus while trying to evade arrest from customs official, veered to the other side of the road and collided with another bus.”

“The drivers of the buses and a passenger, who was seating at the front, died on the spot but our men were able to rescue the other passengers. They have been taken to the General Hospital in Badagry,” he said.

A source at the hospital, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, confirmed the death when a correspondent visited the place. “Three people died in the accident while two other passengers, with critical condition, have been referred to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.”

“Three persons were also treated and have been discharged while six are still on admission,” the source said.
