Dear Nigerians, transgenders are here and there’s nothing you can do about it

The Nigerian society is quietly witnessing the birth of a new breed of transgenders, a trend that hardly existed few years back.

Since the year began, a few young Nigerians have revealed their new identities without shame or fear.

Most of them are men who now identify with the female gender and will stop at nothing to show off the lady in them. From what we see, these guys have not gone through sex reassignment surgery but it may be in the works.

We do not know if they are holding back from going under the knife because of how costly the procedure is or because they are just not sure where they belong yet.

There’s so much we do not know about these guys other than the social media frenzy that they create when they put up photos. Many Nigerians are not familiar with LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) yet and majority will never associate themselves with such ‘evil’.

Mainstream media has turned a blind eye to this breed and the rest of us just do not take them seriously but our non-acceptance won’t matter anymore, these ones have come to stay.

Denrele Edun: The Channel O presenter comes across as the most confused person on earth. We’ve seen him go from an ordinary guy who loves to wear extraordinary clothing, to rocking outrageous female hairstyles to stepping out in female clothing and now, posing butt-naked in effeminate photos.

Denrele has never come out as gay or transgender and has left most people only with suspicions. He has however publicly supported female-specific campaigns such as No Bra Day, where he shared a top-naked photo of himself in an embrace with an unidentified top-naked lady.

denrele-buttIdris “Bobrisky” Okuneye: At the moment, Bobrisky is the best source of entertainment on social media. This article explains who Bobrisky is and why Nigerians can’t get over his character, at least for now.

Unlike Denrele, male Barbie, as he calls himself, has taken his female identity up a notch by bleaching his skin and adorning his face with make-up. He does it all so good some ladies have expressed that he is an inspiration to them.

Seun “the Diva”: This is the newest lady on the block of Nigerian cross-dressers and transgenders. He claims that Bobrisky inspired him to come out publicly and be true to his identity.

In a photo of him that has gone viral, he is seen wearing male clothing but with a face beaten to perfection. Seun is a hair stylist who hopes to own his own salon in future and we can tell that this one is out to stay.

He admits that he had always wanted to be identified as a woman and now that he’s at that point, he will resist any hateful or bitter comments thrown at him.

“Live and let live”, he said.

We cannot wish away these few bold ones who have come out, we can only accept that they are proof that our society is just as real as the West.

We anticipate more public revelations from many others of this type who have hid for so long.
