The town of Kirchinga, in Adamawa state, was attacked by Boko Haram insurgents in the early hours of Nigeria’s Independence Day, October 1.
A resident of the village, who was on the run, Ahmad Musa, revealed to Premium Times that the insurgents came into the town around 12:30am and fired shots sporadically, razed down buildings, as residents scampered for cover..
Musa also revealed that the insurgents slit the throats of 5 people, who were trapped. “We are now in deep sorrow.”
The insurgents were said to have raided the town for several hours, as another resident, John Apagwu, lamented the fact that there were no security operatives in the area.
“We want the government to deploy more security personnel for us because as Nigerians the government owes us a duty to protect us.”
“The fact that our area share borders with Sambisa forest and Cameroon republic should have been enough reason why government must deploy security personnel to protect us. If the government does not take proactive measures to stem the ugly insurrection of insurgents into our domain, they will kill all of us.”
