West Brom must be thanking their stars they didn’t offload Brown Ideye

by Mark Bassey

On transfer deadline day in January, the rumour mills seemed to suggest Brown Ideye was off to El-Gharafa in Qatar, in a cut-price £3.8m deal, just six months after West Brom paid £6.2m more for his services.

Word out there, was that the Baggies were very desperate to offload the Nigerian, who has failed to inspire.

Just a few weeks later, the club’s hierarchy must be delighted the deal did not scale through.

On Wednesday night, Ideye scored his second goal in as many matches, as Tony Pulis’ team jumped out of relegation places. The Super Eagles striker recieved a pass from Saido Berahino and despite the attention of Ashley Williams, he adjusted his body and finished expertly. It was his third league goal – and he has scored more than Radamel Falcao and Mario Balotelli.

Ideye was also on hand to set up Berahino for the second goal, that essentially ended the tie as a contest.

His equalizer last week stole a point at Turf Moor, but his contributions this week sealed three points. And if Pulis manages to keep West Brom in the top flight, he would definitely be grateful for the efforts of their record signing.
