What we’ve gathered from the “Buhari” trend on Twitter

Ever experienced an emotional ripple effect? That moment when an incident makes you reflect on the fact that this particular issue is a ‘recurring decimal,’  with no end in sight or when someone causes you such emotional distress and you begin to reminiscence on all the past troubles the said person has caused you.

Such an emotional trip can lead you to act in a manner you rather not, or say things that are best left unsaid and at the very least, such a thing can depress you.

This has been the case for Nigerians for some time now, every unfortunate incident the country is faced with, reminds us that things seem not to be getting better. This explains why President Muhammadu Buhari is always a recurring trend.

Many Nigerians feel bamboozled, having believed that a man who at the time of election seemed to be of high moral standing and military discipline would make things better if he got into power.

The promise that he would hunt down corruption, eliminate insecurity, and instill discipline within the ranks of government is what made people vote him and now, everything that was expected of the current administration has not even been remotely met, and as a matter of fact, things look even worse.

The insecurity issue in Northern Nigeria, particularly Borno that is trending today has immediately brought to mind the deficiency of the current government. It is reminding people of all the promises the government is failing to keep.

From corruption, to lack of economic growth, and of course, insecurity. Nigerians appear fed up and the blame today on Twitter was heaped upon those who had elected the President into office in the first term and how ironic it is that they are the ones suffering the heaviest blows.

Also, those defending the President on social media are being dealt a backlash.

In the end, many Nigerians feel the President has failed them and needed to say it in droves yet again, hoping to get the attention of the President who is “always silent.”
