Buruji Kashamu officially becomes ‘Mr Untouchable’

Buruji Kashamu is highly favoured… in the courts.

A Federal High Court had in June, restrained the Federal Government from arresting and extraditing the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, to the United States to stand trial on drug-trafficking charges.

Delivering the judgement, Justice Okon Abang, declared the arrest and extradition of Kashamu as illegal, saying he had already been exonerated by two British courts

On Tuesday, December 2, Kashamu received another favourable judgment which essentially made him… Mr Untouchable.

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos stopped the government from seizing Kashamu’s properties, over the drug trafficking allegations.

Justice Ibrahim Buba ruled that the seizure of Kashamu’s properties without following due process would be tantamount to abuse of power by the government.

Kashamu had requested for a perpetual injunction, restricting the government from seizing his properties.

The Senator claimed that the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and the National Drug Drug Law Enforcement Agency, were making moves to seize his 24-flat housing estate at Egbe and several hectares of land on Lekki Peninsula, Lagos.

He told the court that he acquired the properties, worth N20 billion, legitimately and through hard work.

In his ruling, the judge restrained the AGF and NDLEA from taking any action against Kashamu’s properties.
