FIFA President considers 2 more World Cup slots for Africa

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino who is currently on a visit to Nigeria said if the organisation should consider increasing the number of teams that will be participating in the World Cup, he would propose two more slots for Africa.

Infantino made the promise on Monday while speaking with State House correspondents shortly after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Five African countries currently participate in the event.

“If FIFA will be increasing football teams in World Cup competition, I will propose two more teams to come from Africa,” he said.

Infantino also said more works needed to be done in the areas of organisational structures, setting of training centres and better framework for football development in Nigeria.
