How Fire Service chief scammed two job seekers

A former Assistant Comptroller General of the Nigeria Fire Service, Dada Olatunji, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged criminal offences involving employment scam.

According to a petition written by two job applicants, Robert Mathew and Theresa Abah, an official of the Nyanya division of the fire service, Christopher Adaje, had told them in December 2014 of a recruitment exercise and promised to secure employment for them by April 2015 if they could provide N350,000 each.

Matthew and Abah, who were desperate and unemployed, borrowed money from family and friends to make up the said amount, with Abah paying N225,000 and Matthew, N350,000.

The said money (N575,000) was paid into the back account of Adaje. However, months later the applicants were yet to be employed as promised. They later visited the office of Adaje, only to discover that it was a fraud.

When he was arrested, Adaje confessed to the EFCC that he was a frontman for Olatunji and that the money was given to Olatunji. The suspects will be charged to court soon.
