‘No such thing’ | Zamfara Governor denies plans to impeach him

The Governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari, on Wednesday, denied claims that the state House of Assembly was planning to impeach him.

The governor stated this wile addressing journalist after presiding over the Nigerian Governors’ Forum inside the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to reports, the state House of Assembly had listed six impeachable offences that the governor had allegedly committed, including misappropriation of state funds.

However, reports say that officials of the Department of State Services have arrested and detained the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Sanusi Rikiji, and other principal officers of the House for the impeachment efforts.

Yari noted that the state was at peace and that the leadership of the state Assembly have denied any effort to remove him from office.

He said, “Even the Assembly says there is no such (impeachment) move and that there was a misunderstanding. But you know it is democracy we are practising and everyone can be hurt. We are peaceful.”
