Sokoto State police command has warned candidates of political parties contesting in the 2015 general elections to refrain from making use of sirens.
According to the police spokesperson in the state, Al-Mustapha Sani, there have been several complaints about the use of sirens by some candidates.
In a statement released on Wednesday, January 7, Sani said: “In Sokoto State, only the governor, his deputy, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, CP, AIG, the Brigade Commander and the Sultan are legally allowed to use the sirens while on movement.”
“Anyone outside this exclusive list, who uses sirens, does so illegally and stands to face the consequences according to the laws of the land.”
Furthermore, the statement warned political parties against engaging youths to carry various types of weapons during their activities.
“This act is also illegal and anyone found wanting will be dealt with duly according to the laws of the nation. The youths can be used for campaigns but not to wield weapons and often cause breach of the peace.”
“The command is using both internal and external resource persons in this direction. The 2015 general elections will be conducted peacefully and successfully and ensuring this is a collective responsibility of all Nigerians,” the statement added.
