Adamawa explosion possibly caused by ‘accidental discharge’

Accidental discharge is the likely cause of Thursday morning’s explosion in the Jimeta Divisional Police Headquarters, in Yola, Adamawa state.

The explosion was reported to have rocked the police station which is located in a commercial area surrounded by a market, school, Prison Yard, Post Office and a television station.

According to PR Nigeria, a security source revealed that the explosion occurred due to the ‘mishandling of explosives devices by security personnel’ within the police station.

“The explosion is likely caused by accidental discharge due to mishandling of explosive devices by security personnel within the police station.”

“For now we are not suspecting terrorism for the explosion as the security agencies are currently investigating the remote cause of the incident.”

Four bodies have been recovered and moved to mortuary while over 20 injured victims are being attended to by medical personnel.
