After 9 months, SSS returns passports of Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II

Less than a week after the supposed peace meeting President Goodluck Jonathan and the Emir of Kano at the Presidential Villa, the State Security Services has returned the passports of Muhammad Sanusi II, which it seized earlier this year, in February.

The State Director, State Security Services, (SSS), Bassey Etang, handed over the two travelling passports to the emir at his palace on Saturday, 8 November.

The Senior Special assistant to Governor Kwankwaso on chieftaincy and emirate council affairs, Alhaji Tijjani Mailafiya, confirmed the development.

Mailafiya praised the Fdereal Government for the gesture, saying it will allow the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, carry out his local and foreign engagements when necessary.

Emir Sanusi’s diplomatic travelling passport was seized at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos when he returned from Niger Republic, while the Nigerian international passport was taken from him at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport when he was about boarding Turkish Airline to France.

The return of the passports comes nine months after the Department of State Services seized them, after he was suspended as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by President Jonathan.
