APC Visit: What does Osinbajo know about it?

by Alexander O. Onukwue

What did Acting President Yemi Osinbajo know about the APC’s visit to President Muhammadu Buhari on the evening of July 23?

Much of the nation woke Monday morning to the news and the photo of the dinner table, on which President Buhari was pictured with a delegation of five persons including the APC Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun.

Prof Osinbajo made a trip to Buhari in London twelve days ago on the 12th of July, a move that was something of a surprise. It was one that presented him as in charge and ‘a step ahead’. There was no dining table photo from that meeting, neither did the Acting President say an awful lot about Buhari, other than that they spoke for over an hour, and that he, Buhari, would be returning to the country soon.

With the APC’s delegation, there is a picture of the visit, a statement from President Buhari’s special assistant on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, but no comments from the official communication channels of the Acting President. His media assistant, Laolu Akande, retweeted the tweets from the ‘Presidency Nigeria’ handle which described the visit of the APC leaders.

It should be expected that, as an indispensable member of the APC and the Acting President, Prof Osinbajo would be privy to the plan of the visit of the leadership of the party to President Buhari in Abuja House, London. That would ensure there are no insinuations as to any behind-the-back moves that have been recurrent.

A small matter of consideration here is that none of the APC South-West Governors – Aregbesola, Ambode, Akeredolu, Amosun and Ajimobi – were present at the dinner table. It would be interesting to know Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s thoughts on the proceedings.
