These are the top 10 stories that drove conversations this week.

  1. Buhari returns to London

President Muhammadu Buhari travelled to London for medical follow-up.

This was revealed by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

2. Boko Haram released 82 Chibok girls

Terrorist group, Boko Haram released 82 of the Chibok school girls it abducted in 2014.

According to the Federal Government, some Boko Haram members were released in exchange for the girls.

While reacting to the news, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) criticized the release of Boko Haram commander in exchange for the girls.

Buhari described the release of the girls as a gift to Nigerians as his second anniversary approaches.

3. Buhari’s letter to Senate

There has been controversies over the letter written by President Muhammadu Buhari informing the National Assembly about his trip.

While debating during plenary, some Senators stated that the President did not hand over to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as Acting President.

Buhari in the letter described Osinbajo as coordinator.

Senator Ohuabunwa stated that the letter was ambiguous and didn’t clearly state Osinbajo as acting President.

4. National Assembly releases its budget for the first time

The National Assembly published its budget for the first time. 

The budget showed that the National Assembly has budgeted N125bn as against N115bn in 2016.

A breakdown of the estimates shows that the National Assembly gets N14.9bn; Senate, N31.3bn; House of Representatives, N49bn; National Assembly Service Commission, N2.4bn; legislative aides, N9.6bn; Public Accounts Committee (Senate), N118.9m; Public Accounts Committee (Reps), N142.7m; general services, N12.5bn; National Assembly Legislative Institute, N4.3bn; and service wide vote, N391.3bn.

5. National Assembly passes 2017 budget 

The National Assembly passed the 2017 budget of N7.44 trillion.

The House of the Representatives first passed the budget after a brief closed door meeting of the chamber’s leaders.

The Senate followed suit some moments later.

6. Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe did a tell-all interview

Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe appeared in a tell-all video interview.

The actress in the interview said she was still vomiting blood.

She added that she stayed in her marriage because of her children.

Music icon, 2face Idibia has threatened to sue his former band mate, Blackface for allegations of song theft against him.

Blackface had alleged that the ‘African Queen’ singer stole his song and has been sabotaging his career.

In response, 2face promised ro drag him to Court if he fails to apologize.

DMW boss, Davido has welcomed his second daughter, Hailey.

Although he previously announced his baby’s name weeks ago, Davido shared photos from the hospital ward via Snapchat asking for prayers as labour was in progress.

9. Trump sacks Comey

President Trump on Tuesday fired FBI director James Comey, stripping the man who is responsible for the bureau’s investigation into a collision between Russian and Trump campaign team of his position.

The bombshell announcement that sent ripples of shock and surprise through Washington ends the career of the man who was once seen as the ideal of how a law enforcement officer should behave. Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is now the acting director of the FBI.

10. Lagos govt bans VIOs from its roads

The Lagos State government has barred Vehicle Inspection Officers from its roads.
