By this development, Tambuwal who is speculated to be running for the Presidency in 2019, becomes the 3rd sitting governor in the last one week to jump ship from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governors Samuel Ortom of Benue and his counterpart in Kwara, Abdulfatah Ahmed had earlier left the party to join the PDP.
Tambuwal, the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, joined the APC in 2014, having received massive support from the leading opposition parties at the time to trump his party’s zoning principle in favour of his emergence as the head of the green chamber.
